The Tabernacle of David

1 Chronicles 16:4: Then he appointed some of the Levites as ministers before the ark of the LORD, to invoke, to thank, and to praise the LORD, the God of Israel.

David set up a tabernacle for God with a particularly uniqueness in comparison with the one that was in the wilderness and at Shiloh. Music was a central feature of the operation of the tabernacle of David.

David was called the psalmist of Israel (2Samuel 23:1). He moved music to the heart of the worship protocol. It was him who wrote in (Psalms 100:4) that we should enter the gates of God with thanksgiving and his courts with praise: an indication of the proper way to draw near God.

Even in prayer the New Testament records wades in with the affirmation that our requests should be made to God with thanksgiving (Philippians 4:6). Faith is expressed in praise, an unabashed acknowledgement of the supremacy of God, and an affirmation of his greatness.

You can’t see God but here you are crediting him with the breath that you breathe, confessing that the provision, protection and even the productive way that you do things (wisdom), is directly linked to him. That is faith, which is what pleases God (Hebrews 11:6), that is what overcomes in this life (1John 5:4). It’s a great way to focus yourself on who matters- God, rather than fall to the distractions that we can easily find in the grit of daily living. A heart of praise and thanksgiving sets your mood, so you are not moody. With that, you follow the rhythm of heaven, where worship goes on uninterrupted, and the glory of God manifests unhampered. With praise and thanksgiving, you set your mind on things in heaven as the bible teaches (Colossians 3:2).

Music as a universal language, contain words artistically set with accompanying sounds produced by musical instruments. With that, in unison, both man and non-living elements synchronise in lifting the name of God. Just as the psalmist said to God that praise is waiting for you in Zion (Psalm 65:1), is your lips recognised as a praise producing factory? It should be. You are the Tabernacle of God (since you are the house of God [1Corinthians 3:9]), you are the Tabernacle of David (set up by David for God [2Samuel 6:17]), because the bible affirms that the tabernacle of David will be restored, that praise center (Amos 9:11, Acts 15:16-17).

Therefore, all believers are to offer to God sacrifices of praises (Hebrews 13:15) in fulfilment of that prophecy. Be the restored tabernacle of David, let the praise of God resound in your mouth, whether you sing like a nightingale

 

or croak like a type of amphibian.
