A tale of five kingdoms

galaxy-nebula-sky-space-stars-Favim.com-224383Daniel 2:44: And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever.

The dream of a tall statue that King Nebuchadnezzar had, as interpreted by Daniel is about a series of Kingdoms, starting with Nebuchadnezzar’s that will culminate with the kingdom that Jesus will set up (Revelation 14:17).

The first kingdom is the Babylonian Empire; the next is the Medes and Persians kingdom, then the Greek kingdom empire, than the Roman empire; making four empires, before the fifth kingdom, which is God-Kingdom. Each of the first four is represented by a kind of metal- Babylonian: Gold, Medes and Persians: Silver, Greek: Brass, Roman: Iron (Daniel 2).

Each kingdom/metals stands for

1)      Evil influences that we have presently on the earth against the church

2)      Good influences that the church is meant to express.

You might think that Babylon and co are historical, but note the words of Daniel in the focus verse that the fifth kingdom of stone (which is a divine kingdom because the stone was not cut with human hands) is set up by God, “in the days of these kings.” These kingdoms therefore represent prevailing influences on the earth, which the kingdom of Christ, manifest in the church now would swallow up; making five kingdoms prevailing at the same time, in the time of the end.

However, the church represents a different/higher order of things that these kingdoms stand for. Just like the rod of Moses became stone and swallowed up the snakes that the rods of the soothsayers of Pharaoh turned to. The rod-snake of Moses represents the influence of God swallowing up that of the devil. It wasn’t an eagle swallowing up a snake; it was a similar thing God-rod-snake swallowing up the evil-rod-snakes of the Pharaoh’s people (Exodus 7:9-13). It was two classes of snakes. They may look alike but there are differentiated by source and power. At the end of the day, it was only the God-rod-snake that we see. It has swallowed up the rest. Ditto, in the dream that Daniel interpreted, at the end of it all, it is the stone of the Kingdom of God that stands while others structures if influences are done away with.

So I see the fours kingdoms, as those with influences that move against the church, while the church also possesses the reality of the higher order of the same influences that the four represents swallows them up, crushes them out in a clash of kingdoms. That is where we are now.

Gold Babylon

This was the kingdom that conquered Judah; starting from the reign of King Hezekiah. Hezekiah showed the emissaries of that kingdom his store house of gold and Babylon invaded the land and carted away the gold (2Kings 20:12-21).

The Babylonian kingdom is noted for the wealth. The king was once punished by God for not acknowledging God for his achievements/wealth (Daniel 4). The capital city was marked with splendor, hence the lifting up of the heart of the king in pride, causing God to judge him with a time when he became like animals.

Evil influence: We should be careful of the influence of gold Babylon even now. Jesus said that we cannot serve God and Mammon (Luke 16:9-13, Matthew 6:24). Nebuchadnezzar set up an image of gold, asking people to come and bow down to it (Daniel 3). That is the influence of Babylon that we have now.

We defeat the god of gold by loving God above all else and being willing to lose our lives than bow to gold and seen with the three friends of Daniel.

Church influence: The plan of God is that the church wields the power of wealth. The bible says that the glory of the latter house shall be greater than former (Haggai 2:1-9). The former house was the temple that Solomon built. And Solomon was marked by wealth. The latter house which is the church will be marked by stupendous wealth. The kind of wealth whose sole purpose will be to pushed forward the frontiers of the kingdom of God.

Silver Mede and Persian

One of the kings who submitted to the influence of certain of his leaders said that no one must worship anyone except the king for a period of thirty days (Daniel 6).

Evil influence: Silver Mede and Persia stands for self-worship/man worship. Paul warned that in the last days many shall be lovers of themselves (2Timothy 3:1-7). The force of entertainment and drug influences that make people get high, seeking enjoyment, are all linked to this influence, what the devil wants us to occupy our time with so that we can forget God. The force of divorce is linked to the influence because it is about self preservation, and not willing to die for the others in the case of marriage, ditto sexual immorality, including all sexual perversion and sinful lifestyle; preoccupations that draws us away from God, which includes the operation of the spirit of witchcraft, and exerting influences through demonic spirits.

Silver is stands for the price of a man. It was twenty pieces of silver that was the money used to purchase Joseph (Genesis 37:28), and the money paid to Judas to betray Jesus (Matthew 26:15, Zechariah 11:12-13). It was thirty days that Darius King of Medes and Persia said he should be worship. For Joseph it was the price of a man to make him a slave, for Jesus it was the price of buying Judas for him to carry out the will of the devil.  Therefore whatever enslaves the will of man and whatever opposes the will of God in the will of the devil is a manifestation of the kingdom of Mede and Persia.

Church influence: It was during the reign of the Medes and Persia that Daniel as a season of prayer had a revelation of angel Gabriel. Gabriel told Daniel that in that time of prayer that he and Michael fought with the Prince of Persia (a demonic ruling spirit).  The power of prayer was revealed as being counter to the influence of the demonic angel called the Prince of Persia. Daniel engaged in prayer and fasting; and the influence of Persia was dealt with, because the influence of heaven was released (Daniel 10).

A life of prayer breaks the power and influence of self worship, by strengthening connections with God in prayer we oppose the influence of the prince of Persia which is focused on putting man at the centre of things instead of God.

With Babylon it is Money in opposition to God, with Mede and Persia it is will of man in opposition to God. The superior force that the church presents is counter the will of man is to have will of man conjoined with God’s, which prayer empitomises. And we pray: let the will of God be done on earth as it is in heaven (Matthew 6:9). And for Babylon the counter force is giving in the course of God.

Brass Greek

The reign of the Greek was seen in the book of Esther. But much about it is not known except from the words of New Testament. The language of in which the New Testament was originally written was Greek. That was a mark of their intellectual development.

Evil influence: Brass Greek stands for elevated intellectualism, where the thoughts are stripped of God. The atheistic influences are traced to this one, in which everything is seen as explainable without acknowledging the influence of the spirit world. Even now those under the influence of the Greeks intellectualism would deny many operations of the Holy Spirit, saying that the time has passed, and they are Christians.

Brass Greek represents a life without the Spirit; the bible says that the Greeks seek wisdom, while the Jews seek sign (1Corinthians 1:18-31). Because of their overemphasis on intellectualism, they are clueless about the spirit. This influence can be found in the church in certain denominations, and in the academia. Brass Greek is wiry of what he cannot explain scientifically, i.e. lab-based observation.

Church influence: Paul said that when he comes to the church in Corinth his words were not with words of human wisdom, but the demonstration of the Spirit and power (1Corinthians 2). The demonstration of power in signs and wonders, manifestations of the gifts of the Holy Spirit, Baptism in the Holy Spirit swallows up intellectualism. The church life is operated by the dynamism of the anointing of the Holy Spirit, bringing heaven to bear on earth in power.

The iron Rome

It was under iron Rome that Jesus Christ was born. It is under iron Rome that the first century church developed. It was there that Jesus Christ was crucified in a most painful way. And the church in the book of Acts was persecuted, under iron Rome.

Evil influence: Iron Rome is very repressive; it presents military power. There is no battle without iron. Grievous persecution of the church took place under the Roman rule. It is operating today in violent persecution of the church under various guises.

Church influence: The bible says that the weapons of our warfare are not carnal (physical tools), by mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds (2Corinthians 10:1-6). The battle of the Christ is fought with the word of God. Paul said that the sword of the spirit is the word of God (Ephesians 6:17). Our spiritually empowered tools of the Word, conquers the territories of the hearts of men for time and eternity.

As a battle strategy in the ministry of Paul the bible says that so mightily grew the word of God and prevails (Acts 19:20).
